Are you looking to apply for a US visa from India? You’re lucky to have a simpler new system for US visa applications. You also have the option to schedule an interview at the US Embassy in Delhi and the US Consulates General in Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.
Steps to the application for a nonimmigrant visa
Step 1: Know your visa type
If you are not a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the US, you can travel to the country on a number of nonimmigrant visas. What type of visa is mandatory under U.S. immigration law depends on the reason for your proposed journey as well as other facts.
Business/tourist visas, work visas, student visas, exchange visitor visas, transit/crew member visas, religious worker visas, domestic employee visas, Journalist and media visas, and a list of NIV types are the types of visas you can look for. Indian nationals are not eligible for the Visa Waiver Program.
You also have the option to renew your visa. Diplomats and other government representatives may be granted A-1, A-2, C-3, and G-1 through G-4 visas for official travel to the United States.
Step 2: Complete your application
Fill out the DS-160 Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application form. Make sure you read the instructions for completing the DS-160 Form. You are unable to make any changes after submitting the form. For appointment scheduling, you will need your DS-160 number.
You must pay the visa fee after choosing the right visa type and completing the DS-160. You have to create a profile and keep the receipt number for booking the visa appointment.
Step 4: Schedule your appointment
You must use the same login details you used to pay your visa fee in order to access your profile. Your dashboard will be visible once you are logged into the system. Click the button Schedule Appointment. Both the Visa Application Center (VAC) appointment and the visa interview at the Embassy or Consulate must be scheduled in advance.
Step 5: Attend your interview
You must bring the following things to your appointment at the VAC:
A passport (valid for travel to the US and having at least 6 months remaining on it after your intended period of stay there)
Your DS-160 confirmation page
Your appointment confirmation page
One photograph as per U.S. visa specifications if the applicant is under 14 years of age
Step 6: Track your passport
Once your visa application is approved, you can collect your passport and visa at the pick-up location you specified when you had an appointment for your interview. You will get an email and an SMS letting you know when your passport is "Ready for Pickup" at a chosen location.
