The fact that it was inhabited in the not-so-distant past is one of the interesting things contributing to its magic to arouse such strong feelings of emotion within our hearts. The Al Ula Valley's narrowest part is where Al Ula Old Town, one of Saudi Arabia’s most exceptional heritage sites, is situated.

The Musa bin Nusayr Castle, which dates back to the 10th century, towers over this old town, which is built on a little elevation that attracts the eyes of tourists and promises a visual treat. The Old Town of Al Ula, which has nearly five town squares, 400 shops, and 900 houses, still has mud-brick structures and ancient stone structures.

Historical Significance

During the pilgrimage from the route of Damascus to Makkah in the 12th century, Al Ula Old Town transformed into a crucial stop to visit. From the 12th to the 20th centuries, when the current AlUla was built nearby, the city progressively superseded Qurh, to the south of AlUla and is well-remembered by travelers. Early residents of the city may have placed high importance on defense because the houses were built to be fortified by one another.

Fourteen gates once served as the city's entrance, and they were opened each morning to welcome pilgrims, travelers, and other visitors before being shut in the evening. The recent occupation of the old city has made it an ideal place for academics to start gathering oral histories and providing a picture of life within its walls. Visitors and researchers are curious to tap into the living memory of Al Ula old town. So, one day, visitors will be able to access these tales and enjoy dipping into them.
